Some Tips for those who Are Complaining
This game is amazing!! I’ve never enjoyed a game for so long. Usually after 2-3 months, I delete a game. I’ve had this game essentially since it first came to the App Store. I have paid for a few things, but I’ve never felt as if I have to spend money on the game. Playing in camp, if there is something you don’t want, sell it for coins. This is how I gain most of my coins and zoom through the game. I don’t usually play the Chalice levels, as I already spend way way way too much time in the camp. Sell the gem chests you don’t want to spend money on, sell the smaller level items you really don’t use. I sell all lower level rocks and mushrooms currently because I already have the highest level of both. I get probably close to 500 coins (if not more) every half hour just from selling this junk that I have no use for. I also focus my dragons on specific things I want to level up in (currently hills) and avoid purposefully having them harvest other things. I also sell the fruit off of all my trees. The payout is usually much better than the coins you get from merging them. Y’all just gotta learn the little tricks of the game and then it becomes amazing. I don’t see myself deleting this anytime soon, though I am currently on a small hiatus from playing it after this last event to ensure I don’t get sick of it.
Fun but too many consumables
By Micci Snowfall
Pros - The premise of this game is a lot of fun if you like collecting things, puzzles, or dragons (who doesn’t!?). There are different kinds of game play with different challenges and rewards (camp v. world map levels). It’s fun to level up the items, especially the dragons.
Cons - The problem comes in that at every turn the game is hungry for real cash (dragon greed?) to buy the in game currency. Want to open a (maybe useful) chest? Pay! (Rewards from chest stink? Pay more!) The mining aspect is cool, but beware that the dragons don’t necessarily mine from the highest level things (i.e., level 2 flowers and level 9 flowers... and they’ll pick the level 2 flowers). It’s annoying when the difference between the result of mining from a low level or high level item is dramatic, and you only have so many moves without letting the dragons sleep to recharge (of course, you can pay to wake them).
Not spending money is an option... just not if you want to move along at a satisfying pace. Would be a lot more fun IMO if the dragons defaulted to mine highest level things; less consumables or more in-game currency rewarded for achievements; or at least make it so that when one does spend money the “reward” is fair (try opening a low level egg chest? Think it’ll be better to open the big one, right? Well... maybe... though a bunch of rain puddles and some random low level junk didn’t seem worth the equivalent cash).
Addicting But Needs Improvement
It's a fun game, but there are glaring issues that distract from it being great. Mainly, the cost of items is on the high side. As well, the drop rates are nice at first, then become all about making you spend money. Latest patch only made things more expensive. They give you so many premium currency chests without ways to really gain that currency after the first portion of the game so your camp is full of stuff you have to sell for nothing or pay handsomely for in real world money. $6.99 for a starter island... Well you can see where it's going. If you want to get people spending money in the game so they continue to spend, you need some low-price high value feeders.
Edit: Also, now the $6.99 island at least shows what you get, but it also says it's -58% off? Uhmm, you can't just say something is on sale when it was never higher to begin with, there are laws against that. I know they could say it costs 58% less than if you bought gems and got that stuff, but given that it's a unique area it's not comparable to other items/prices and the way it's displayed is not indicative of that. As it stands, it's pretty badly designed and potentially illegal in some localtiies.
Edit: an update, bringing more free stuff! Except no... just more ways to spend gems. Everything free is locked by gems. Coincidence that even less gem stars seem to fall? Should rename it from Gram games to Grab games as in money grab.
Extremely addicting but to a price
By Icaria the gamer
The game is extremely fun and wonderfully made. The only problem are the chest that take gems to open. Gems are extremely hard to come by unless you buy them so it'd be nice if we could use coin to unlock them since coin is only really used to buy dragon eggs and level 1 coin storage. Besides that it truly is a wonderful game
I’m changing my 5 star rating to 3 star rating. Although I still love this game and am still addicted to it I can’t help but get mad when it seems as if it’s slowly turning into a money hungry game. Gems cost money, going through some quest cost money, chest cost money, getting the bonus items cost money, new islands cost money. I used to be happy paying just for the island and maybe some gems every few months or so but now it feels like everything is starting to cost more and I miss how it was when everything didn’t cost so much. And this is coming from a person who has beat all the level and has beat half of them three times and a few of them more than 9 times. Who has unlocked more than half the base also. Plus after totally all my purchases I’ve spent over 80$ on this game. I just wish it was easier to get things outside of the levels without it cost so much. Maybe we can watch ads for gems?? Or to skip quest ?? I wouldn’t mind at all
Updates have ruined the game
I’ve had this game since February and I really enjoyed it. I didn’t experience any problems until they recently started to update it. The game started to run slower (even on a new updates phone) and it became frustrating when things I didn’t want to merge would automatically merge when I dragged item across the screen and it would freeze. It drains my battery really fast and makes my phone hot. I had a problem with this June 2018 event where eventually BOTH my red dragons disappeared behind these new mystic cloud features they’re utilizing. I trashed all my healing items I could’ve used in order to reach them and get them out (hopefully) because the way I play events, I clear a good amount of land and then trash all harvestable items except the ones the dragons can harvest for points so I can just leave my phone alone while they do their thing. I was okay with just one dragon but then I eventually lose both of them! I contacted support on the app and they addressed the other problem I had and not the one about the event. I sent an email to support and they haven’t gotten back yet. I’ve never been so angry at this game and their updates. I thought I would give a good review for this game when I first started playing, but this game has just seemed to get worse over the months.
Chalice Cost, Skipping Quests, and Mushrooms
First off: I enjoy this game, it is one of my favorites! However, some aspects of the game are rather poor and frustrating to deal with! For example: In the latest patch the update stated that Chalices now cost less, however, they didn’t mention that levels now cost more Chalices to play! This means you cannot easily go back and replay a level, farming for the prizes, without having to spend real money to get it done quickly. This is almost punishing players for playing the same levels over and over (their own choice/decision to do so) in order to get them to either 1) not play the same levels or 2) get them to spend more money. Secondly, the option to skip quests is wonderful! If only it was free to do instead of costing gems! Some quests are glitched (prism flower one) while others want you to open egg chests (all costing gems) which makes it hard to complete quests in the camp. Finally, mushrooms! Mushrooms have no end wonder, therefore they’re hardly useful, but dragons seem to be obsessed with harvesting them! I would love a way to instruct the dragons to avoid automatically harvesting from certain items, when left to their own thing, the dragons happily fill up the camp with mushrooms and other unneeded items!
These are my main complaints with the game, otherwise it is a fun game and I do enjoy it, I just wish the game wasn’t so centered on needing/having gems!
Fun game but way too many problems that need fixing
Like other reviews say, the only way to play the game at a slightly faster pace is if you spend real money on in game perks. I won’t go too into detail about that since a lot of reviews already covered that, but I’ve only seen a few mention the problem with the chalices. Waiting an HOUR just for one chalice is insane, especially when most levels require you to spend 6 or 7 chalices the farther you go. So you have to wait 6 or 7 hours just to play ONE level. Then you have to wait another 7 hours to play the next level. And there’s only so much you can do at camp until all of your dragons sleep after harvesting just a few items. It takes way too long to barely advance in the game. If you want people to actually play the game, I suggest fixing the issue with the chalices. It takes way too long just to get a chalice and the amount of chalices needed to play a level is ridiculous. If you’re going to make the cost of levels all 7 chalices, you need to reduce the wait time for chalices from an hour to fifteen or twenty minutes. I really want to love this game but I may end up deleting it because of how frustrating it is. The game requires you to invest a lot of time (and potentially money) for very little reward. Don’t recommend this game for anyone with a short attention span or busy schedule.
You never run out of things to do
A lot of people are saying that you can only make steady progress in this game if you pay for it. That’s simply not true. There are two sections of this game: there’s your island, where all of your items and dragons are kept, and there’s the puzzle portion. To play the puzzles you need to wait for your trophies to refill. Each level takes at least one trophy, and some more, while you can only have a maximum of seven trophies at a time. It also takes an hour for a trophy to refill. If you see the main part of the game as the puzzles, then you would have to pay to make progress. But the main part of the game is actually on your island. You can play non-stop and never run out of things to do. Merging flowers, trees, homes, energy, completing quests to get rewards, and collecting rewards from the puzzles, all leaves you with a lot. You can also expand your land and unlock higher level items through merging. I have had moments where I could play for hours and not be bored.
If you’re planning on trying this game, try and spend most of your time on your island and you’ll make the most of it.
One of my favorite games
As someone who loves games that involve collecting things, this is a wonderful way to pass the time. I'm always excited to see what the next level dragon or item I'm fusing will be and I find myself chanting "one more fusion" over and over in an attempt to get myself off the game.
It's great that you don't really have to spend any money to play since you can get gems fairly easily and making coins isn't hard either. The price increasing with each purchase gives the game a bit more challenge, but being able to upgrade coin storages and make more at a time keeps it from getting too difficult. It feels well balanced in my opinion.
One thing I would love to see is some sort of catalogue where we could see all possible combinations in whatever category they fit into. I know we can click on things and check that specific line of combos, but sometimes it feels like a chore doing it that way. Especially if it's a certain dragon line you'd like to see, but your dragons happen to be asleep and you can't get to them. One place to see all unlocked combos would make things much easier.
The problems in Merge Dragons
By Your Fan 😀
Hi I am a really big fan but not the #1 fan cause a lot of people like this game anyways the game always glitches whenever I play a level and would you guys mind if you could put a little bit more Chalics cause when I play a level it has a h need for a higher amount of chalics so then after I finish playing that level all my Chalics are finished within that level so then I have to wait 7 hours to get a refil so that’s annoying and another thing when the notification comes on my phone saying that the dragons are awake I quickly open the game thinking that they are not gonna go back to sleep but I think wrong cause after 5 minutes all the dragons are asleep so I play 1 level and then I come back to camp and one dragons awake so the it harvests only one thing then it goes back to sleep so long story short could you guy(s) please make the dragons sleeping time shorter or something and could you also please decrease the price on stuff so that the dragon gems aren’t wasted cause it’s hard getting more gems without paying real money thx . Looking forward to your next update! 🙂
A few very big flaws.
When I first started playing the game I fell in love with it, I love how there is so much to do and so many things to merge. However, I hardly ever spend more than 10 minutes on the game at a time, then have to wait several hours just to play another 10 minutes. The chalices are absolutely ridiculous! It takes an entire hour to refil just one, and with the max being seven. I have to wait seven hours before I get to play the actual story line. It becomes very boring and aggravating.
Another thing is that there are lots of things that require gems, but they are nearly impossible to get with the amount of gems earned in the game. There are plenty of people who will pay a small amount for gems to get ahead in the game. But instead, payment is almost forced if you want to play. Your choices are to have to wait several hours to play, not be able to get certain achievements OR skip them because they both require gems, or pay a minimum of $6.99 to get a small amount of gems that will only get you a few things in the game.
It’s hard to get people to keep playing your game once they’ve lost interest. I would really love to continue to play. However, as long as I’m having to wait hours for chalices and pay tons of money to get anywhere in the game, I don’t see myself playing much longer.
Dev team are scum-sucking, money-stealing slugs
I accidentally deleted this game from my tablet a month and a half ago. I immediately downloaded it again because I LOVE the game. However, there was no way to resort everything I had purchased. I was told at the time that I could submit all the receipts for purchases and they’d credit the money or gems back to me. I asked for the gems, as I simply wanted to be able to restore my progress, right? Well, I’ve been given the runaround for a month and a half. Last communication I received from this shoddy outfit was 10 days ago when they had everything proven and clarified. They said it would be immediately forwarded to the division that would take the next steps. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? And I’ve heard not one single peep since. I’ve messaged repeatedly asking for updates, only to be ignored.
These people have no morals and are only out for your money. I know people need to earn a living, but it’s not my fault they built an app where you can’t save and restore progress, and I have done everything they asked (and that wasn’t easy). I haven’t even asked for my money back.....only for the gems I had purchased and lost, which won’t cost them a dang thing.
Avoid this app, and avoid any apps made by this terrible company.
Pros & Cons
I enjoy game play but to progress at a satisfying pace I would need to open the egg chests I am constantly being awarded, which costs money. I currently have over 50 unopened chests cluttering my playing field in “camp” mode. How is it an award if I have to pay to open it? I can not delete them either. I just have to move them to the side so I don’t have them making a mess. Update: I just paid 11 dragon gems for a bonus chest, and inside the chest were 5 smaller chests that I have to pay 11+ gems to open. What the heck!?
I couldn’t complete the most recent event, despite being CONSTANTLY on my phone and leaving my phone awake so the dragons could harvest more quickly. The cost of completion should I have decided I desperately needed the coveted prizes? Nearly $50USD worth of dragon gems. Imagine you didn’t have an amazing amount of free time to play? It would have been more. Quite a bit more. I had to walk away from the final 3 tiers of prizes. I didn’t need a mushroom house that badly. Or 2 dragons I didn’t already have, though if it were less costly- I may have considered it. 560 gems just for a decoration. No way. That would price out between $10-20USD. This game is crazy expensive.
Fun game but progress is pay locked
I really enjoy the basic game; however the game unabashedly pushes you towards spending money just to progress an insignificant amount. The majority of "rare" drops are locked behind a paywall that if you open you are unsatisfied and if you don't open then they clutter up your area. Not to mention the goals that specifically require you to spend the in game currency like "open egg chest". You can technically do these goals without spending money if you spend 100's of hours grinding out the in game currency, dragon gen. I can honestly say the game gives you 1 Dragon gem for every 1000 it asks you to spend just to progress. I don't mind spending money to support a good game which I think this is, but I can't stand when the whole game forces you to spend real money on stupid and unsatisfying progression. Meanwhile the gold and stone (not backed by real money) all but become useless later on. There's no option to use the massive piles of the stuff on rarer items meanwhile you have to scrimp and save the dragon gems just to complete a goal ( one you don't even want to do) just to get past it in the camp quest chain.
Don't waste you time and money on the game like I did just to feel like the game only looks at you like a $ sign.
Every Update Makes it Worse
I started playing this game when it was first being advertised and I would have given it five stars all day every day. Now I’m barely at 2 stars, and that’s mostly because I’m too far in and haven’t found a replacement yet. The designers add a new “charge” or time limit or other hindrance with every update, and it couldn’t be more obvious that they are all money grubbing scam artists at this point. This game was, as others have said, the perfect “zen” option for me and I spent money on it before they started adding in all of these racketeering mechanisms. Honestly, I spent way more money before - now it just frustrates me that I can’t RETURN to a level I was JUST playing even for the SAME number of chalices it took to start it. No, instead this terrible game wants me to pay THREE chalices to RETURN to an UNFINISHED LEVEL that I paid ONE chalice to START in the first place! But that’s not all - I’ll need OVER FIFTY DRAGON THINGIES to replenish my chalices because they only give you seven every .4256 days or whatever their bizarre algorithm is. Seriously designers...why did you have to ruin a good thing? I hope it’s at least funding a private jet that takes you somewhere to distract you from your efforts to keep adding new terrible details to this game.
Disappointed in the update
I used to be an every day player. This game was really great, because you could make reasonable progress and strategically play to get the things you wanted (like dragon egg nests from playing levels) and it wasn’t overtly greedy. I’ve actually spent some money just because I felt it was worth it. I liked the 25 gems per day for 30 days or whatever, it was a good deal (update doesn’t have this package). After the update, chalices (aka life, which you need to play levels) TAKE AN HOUR TO RECHARGE instead of 15 minutes. Absolutely ridiculous. And many of the levels now take 7 (ALL!) of your chalices, which means you can play one level and then you can’t play again for hours. I no longer have the patience or attention span. It’s not even worth playing. It’s so sad that they ruined this game to get people to spend more money. And btw—gems are so expensive and so quickly consumed that it’s not even worth buying them at all. Like it’s seriously pointless.
Another complaint—I hate that the eggs (especially the special eggs which cost gems) increase in price every time you buy one. I’d understand if they increased slightly at an interval, but an increase of 5 coins every time you buy an egg? And it takes dozens and dozens of eggs to get high level dragons? So annoying.
Needs An Internal Catalog And Better Events
By Daun Valiant
I will keep playing this game because the core puzzle experience is very nice and cute. My two big suggestions would be to add an in-game catalog so I can see all the different items and dragons I’ve discovered. Instead, you have to “select” an individual item to see how far along that chain you are, and I have more than once accidentally consumed something when I just wanted to read the description. Really frustrating.
Also, the events are just plain boring when they should be the best part. It’s one big level that you have to grind at, and unless you spend real money there’s very little progress to be made. I haven’t even looked at the current event because I found the last two so irritating.
Unless these two things are fixed, I’ll just delete the game once I beat the main levels, because I have no sense of progress with my collection when I can’t see the whole thing, and the seasonal events are too annoying to participate in. I have spent real money on this game because I was having fun but I don’t think I will anymore because outside the core puzzles it’s become repetitive and frustrating.
It’s the only game I’ve ever played over a long period of time. It’s so satisfying to see all the collecting and merging pay off over time. I LOVE the events. I personally don’t find the need to pay for anything with real money. Though I don’t open most chests, I save up for one that I really like or whatever and open it. Though it might sit there for a month. But I choose wisely which ones to open. I saw in a previous review that things don’t move at an adequate speed, but I find it just enough to keep me busy when I need it but not too much to keep me distracted when I don’t. Another thing that I saw from a previous review was that the dragons usually mine from lower level objects, but you can double tap objects to get dragons to mine what you want them to. It might just be a different experience for different people, but I personally love this game and hope it stays around for a long time. With that being said. I rarely review apps and games but have loved this one so much that I felt it was needed.
Fun but sometimes really frustrating
I like this game and frankly it is addictive. I’ve probably put a good 20h in this the past two weeks. The dragons are cute and the puzzles feel fresh and are fun.
However, what frustrates me so much are the amount of gems required for some achievements, and the weird sensitivity for merging things. Sometimes I am merging 5 items, usually high level ones, but the game recognizes only 3 and merges those 3 only, which throws off a lot of game play, especially in challenge levels. I am not going to delve too much in the gems as other people have mentioned it, but it is annoying that in game achievements requires so much real money.
One thing I’d like to see as a new feature is the ability to cancel a “in progress” level from the world map. One too many times I have opted to abandon a level only to realize that the game saved it as a in progress. It breaks the flow of the game, especially when the said level cannot be completed because of a puzzle mistake, but I also have to wait for full chalices to properly abandon it. Please, there must a way to better this part !
Game of Dank 🅱️emes and Fulfilling Dreams
By Noice and cute
I always dreamed of having dragons in real life. Dragons that wouldn’t hurt you, but be like friends and pets. This game is the closest you can get to that, as they are little pets that can help you. From the cute whelps to the cool adults, it’s everything you would want for a dragon pet. I do have flaws however. The whelps for the green dragons and spotted dragons’ designs are very cute, but their kid designs are the exact opposite. It’s just.. ugh. Why. You could also make dragons more like pets than servants/harvesters, where you could play with them, but visit them any time you’d like. Come on, that’s just what I want for dragon pets. I’m not getting to tomogatchi levels here. I also like the trading feature in the camp, but the trades are just unfair. I want things other than dragon eggs I can buy at the beginning of the game. So, overall, I think it’s one of the best games on mobile, but it could have some extra tweaks to it. It’s like DragonVale exept a WHOLE lot better. -CringeFire9
Shouldn’t cost so much to play, fun if you have money to spend!
This would be alot better if you got more for your money, if I spent $20 or $40, I should at least get 5000 gems/tokens as things ate to expensive & if we clear the stage we shouldn’t have to then purchase what we cleared, if we clear the stage & get all 3 stars & make a new discovery it should be available free & if we want extra like 2-3 or more we get a chance to buy them at a discounted price, 1st 1 is free if you clear the stage & to get more will cost so much for each extra! This would be alot better, plus in order to be able to advance quickly the trophy’s needed for each stage should recharge alittle more quickly & not cost so many & we should get more trophies as the higher levels we get, there should be things for everyone to do & get that’s free & advance & speciality items for those who can afford to buy things, that way those that can’t afford to buy gems/tokens or whatever can play & get things & if you want a special dragon or advanced items without having to make them then one can buy the gems/tokens or whatever!!
First off... until this update, I felt like this was actually a neat little game that didn't need much money put into it to be enjoyed.
HOWEVER... the most recent update is absolutely awful. I couldn't care less about the changes made to the Camp, but Chalices, your stamina in the game, now seem to take a full hour just to regenerate one chalice, and each level (other than Camp) takes 4-7 chalices just to try once. Add to that the fact that you can only have up to 7 chalices, and game progress slows down to a (horrifically boring) crawl. Before the update, most levels only took 1 chalice to try (a handful took 2-3 chalices), and chalices would regenerate at about one every 15 minutes, as I recall. I expect to at least be able to play the game without needing to spend hundreds of dollars on a dumb phone app (which it was, prior to the update. Also, only dumb post-update).
In short... CHANGE THE CHALICE AND LEVEL SYSTEM BACK TO HOW IT WAS BEFORE THE UPDATE!!! I genuinely enjoyed the game beforehand, but Gram Games (or, as another reviewer called them, "Grab Games"... thanks, Evilsavant. :D) will permanently lose my business if they don't remove the new paywall (in effect) just to play a little phone game that's supposed to be free-to-play.
Love the game....but.........
This game requires you to spend money to be able to open up some nests which is one of the tasks to receives stars that I’ve gotten to. You do not acquire gems through quests very often or at all it seems to be able to purchase some of the exclusive nests and eggs. I lose interest and stop playing when it seems that the map levels get tough to get through (without gems). Very cute game and can be fun if not monotonous to to achieve much at times. As in a review I’ve read I agree that some auto mining is pointless in the game the dragons will mine things that are lower levels and is counterproductive as they can only mine so much before the “get tired”. So if your not able to direct them to items then I would prefer them to remain idle until you need them. As much work as you put into merging and leveling them the choice to use them where you see fit would be nice. Otherwise I do like this game a lot and have been playing for almost a year if not longer but I can go weeks without playing it.
Challenge Levels are Frustrating
I really liked this game before, it was an easy way to check out mentally after a long day and just mindlessly merge cute dragons and stuff, but now they’ve added these incredibly difficult “Challenge Levels”. I get that they’re supposed to be difficult and fun for those looking for something a little more, well, challenging, but there’s no option to just skip the extra challenge and continue on with the actual story levels. I’ve been stuck on one challenge for weeks and while I’m sure it’s not impossible to beat, it’s incredibly frustrating and makes me not want to even play anymore. There’s also the option to buy items with dragon gems to help you in the challenges, but I don’t want to spend my real money just to pass one stupid challenge, because each challenge is more difficult than the last, and if I can’t even play without blowing possibly $100+ to continue, then why should I even bother? All I’m saying is there should be an option to skip the challenge levels, I don’t think I’m asking too much!!
