  • Fun Game but Inconsistent

Love playing word games and this one is no different but there are some glitches that need to be worked out. First, it’s not okay to have a dictionary that accepts words that can’t be defined. It’s also not okay for solo play ROBOT to use words us real players can’t use such as foreign words, proper nouns... I am confused that some foreign words are accepted while others are not, especially Latin words on which our language is based. WWF2 offered some fun options like swapping letters without losing a turn but the coin purchase offers no incentive to ever purchase more than one swap at a time. Furthermore, lately I’m noticing that I collect coins only to “lose” them a couple at a time. What’s that all about? For example, tonight I started with 117 coins. (I had more than that when I closed last night). I played a round and noticed my coins dropped to 114. I played another round and opened a mystery box and my coins went up to 132. I played another round and my coins went to 116. I’ve no idea why they’re dropping after I play a round. This frustrates me more than not having the coins at all. Please fix this. One last thing. There are some fun features like getting a mystery word and winning coins and seeds for playing letters from that word. What are the seeds good for? Why offer incentives that have no value. And if there is in fact a value, please, DO let us know!
  • Good, but a typical mobile game

This game has incredible potential and it reaches most of it but is dampened with micro transactions and ads. The app has beautiful and easy to use UI, stats that keep track of your abilities and best moments. I like to see this game as a way to grow your vocabulary and have fun doing it. It does this very well by giving you the ability to see definitions of words on the board and even suggesting a new word everyday. When you play a word you have the ability to use hindsight which shows the best possible word you could have played. For some reason, this ability is limited and you have to pay to use it more. There aren’t any game breaking reasons why this should be limited because you already used the letters needed for that word. I believe this ability should be unlimited because it can help expand your vocabulary. The gameplay is fair and is mostly based on your knowledge. The board is well designed and you use each special tile about the same amount in the long run. The ads aren’t too bad. The game is well made and beautifully designed. They should choose between micro transactions and ads or at least make hind sight free. Great job with everything else :)
  • Offer Paid version to remove ads; fix a few things

    2
    By ljm48
Basically a good game, but shouldn’t allow words for which it can’t give a real definition. Allows some foreign words, but rejected some Latin ones. ‘Robots’ seem unfair with letters. Amazing that they usually have just the right letters to form 30+ point words, yet my letter selection is very often almost all vowels, or almost all consonants. If player letters are random, so should the robot’s letters. Needs a PAID VERSION, to stop ads! I have had to wait so many times for a Final Fantasy ad that I don’t think I would even consider getting the game now... Forced ads quickly become irritants, and are counterproductive. Finally, if you pay the 15 coins to swap letters, the algorithm should keep you from getting the same letters back...unless those are the only letters left. Just tonight, I had 3 E’s, so did a swap of 2 E’s. Even though I paid to swap, it gave me 2 E’s right back. There were many letters left in the pool, so it does not appear that a random selection is returned for a swap. Please fix these things to make the play fairer, and offer a paid option so that ads can be removed. Oh yeah, why not offer a discounted price to purchase 5 swaps? It’s 1 swap for 15 coins, or 5 swaps for 75 (5 x15) coins. No incentive to ever buy more than one at a time, since there is no price break for buying multiples.
  • Love the game but in game store is a rip off!

    By KCMilne2
Been playing this game for years and absolutely love it overall. However, the in game store ripped me off. I bought a single pack of radar coins, and it cost me 20 gold coins. The 20 were charged and my balance was reduced, but I never got the word radars that I bought! That took away the fun of the coins in the first place. Either fix this, or get rid of the gimmicks. Also, you continue to add more and more gimmicky coin earning events, and it really is getting ridiculous that almost every time I play something pops up or comes down from the top pane etc. would REALLY LIKE TO SEE a way to opt out of badges and the like or turn off the stuff that are always popping up on my screen now. It's almost as distracting as having ads. PLEASE STOP ADDING THINGS THAT POP UP ON MY SCREEN OR GIVE ME A WAY TO TURN THAT TYPE OE ACTIVITY OFF !!! April 7, 2018 Thanks for the recent update that is now having me endlessly tap little boxes to get coins that I cannot use because my coin bag is already full. How about adding a switch in settings that allow an adult who just wants to play the word game without all the tapping, badges, and gimmicks, to slide it over to one side and be done with all the interruptions? As a paid user shouldn't I have a right to a little more customization?
  • Step in the WRONG direction

This new version is so ugly. With the previous version I started getting dropped games even after I would make my move. Then read online that the fix was to delete and reinstall the app. Upon looking at for it in the App Store, now it's called Words With Friends 2? First of all, what a stupid name to change it to. But I reinstalled it and now I see my dropped games, but the look, colors, the size of everything is so obnoxious. Whoever redesigned the UI needs to go back to middle school. Actually, that's what it looks like; it looks like an obnoxious elementary crappy textbook with stuff all bright and obnoxiously big. Anyway, wish the developers gave an option to view stuff zoomed out or in a classic mode; where I used to be able to see like 7 games on the screen, now I see like two or maybe three and then have to scroll. Unnecessary. And totally ugly UI. And also, stuff like giving me a super light blue (almost white) background and then putting white text on top of that??? Who thought that would be a good design choice idea, that's terrible layout and design; I could barely read it. But finally when I did read it, it was to say that my app is ad-free. Ad-free or not it looks like crap and it's a step in the WRONG direction. Make things simple-looking and easy to read, not obnoxious and bloated. This update offers ZERO improvement to the enjoyment of the game.

My wife and I are both disabled and play a couple of games a day. She plays a lot more than me with numerous games going on throughout the day. My only Suggestion would be a refresh button within the game itself. My wife would tell me it’s my turn and either I wait for the move to show up or I log out of the game I’m in, pull down on the screen (causing a regen) and then find her on the list of active games, select her and from there make my play and she repeats the process. A regen from within the game would be nice. One other suggestion would be a 2 player game on one phone. Passing the phone back and forth. There has been times one of our phones have went dead at the doctors and this would at least allow us to continue to play. And for my last suggestion would be a speed game. Let’s say a 1-2 min play time. After a given time if the player has not played, it passed. This would also keep the games moving and may even get rid of those players (my son) that like to use cheat apps seeing how they would only have so much time. Thank you for a great game and look foreword to more changes.
  • Developers respond to 5 star reviews but not lower?

    2
    By Beebuzzkill
I just came to see what others were saying and saw that the first four reviews I read that the developers respond to the 2 five star reviews but how about the other 2 lower star reviews? One person was stuck in tutorial repeats. My game is stuck on the forth solo challenge, it says play and has a green check but doesn’t start. I looked for an update also turned it off and on along with my device. It Still doesn’t work and it’s set on a clock that’s running out. I couldn’t find help on the game or a place to report bugs. If it’s there it’s not easy to find. The game board on the solo challenges is very small not sure if I like that yet. After the bugs are worked out I will do a review but for now I’m stuck too, at least on that part of the game. I can access other parts such as practice or challenge a friend. Jury is out. To developers why did you not respond to the people with glitches or low reviews? It may be that doing so will increase happy players at least they’d know you’re listening to their valid concerns. I Hope to see an update soon. Thanks for a promising looking game. It seems glitches are pretty common in new games. I know as soon as I update my iPhone along comes an update to update the update and so on etc.
  • Only fix what is broken

Likes: I really enjoy the game and concept. I like that there are more rewards earned, but find them to be traded at a premium - I realize you want to make a profit, but you could definitely humor frequent players with a better value. Issues: My issues are with the screen design; namely the letter tray at the base of the screen often causes the screen of my iPad to go up with the swiping motion made from moving tiles to the board from the base of the screen. Despite trying not to, it happens repeatedly. The tray is nice at the bottom, but doesn’t work well with Apple’s swiping feature. Secondly, depending on whether you press on the face of the friend or on the line where the game information is recorded, determines whether you start a new game or continue play in the current game. This game option/feature is not ideally executed. I am indifferent to the visual effects of the new game design. Most people aren’t fired up about change, so gamers are skeptical when developers attempt to fix and improve on something not broken. It is generally considered a fail if after adjusting to the updated game or new version, players prefer the prior one. Moral of the story: only fix what is broken. 😊

I really like this game. 5+ stars for sure and more like 10 stars. The continual improvements are great and positive and have never have gone into the negative. The new game wwf's.2 has got a lot of visual improvements and I like the "new" sounds. Personally I don't like how the game repeats by showing me what the other games are or new things etc. My suggestion for that would be to put all that on the settings page. Then a person can go there to discover what's new or how many badges they have etc. rather than all that interfacing when one first starts the app. but that's just a suggestion coming from me. Other players may be totally fine with the way it is which is still pretty awesome. I couldn't at this point ever give this app/game a negative review. It's just too well designed and plays well. Thank you for the many hours of pleasure and like another reviewer said, this game really helps to learn words. I have sent in a few word suggestions that didn't get added. Not sure why but I thought I'd bring that to the developers attention. Once again, thank you very much for an outstanding app.

Words with Friends is a fun game. I’ve had various versions of it since it first came out. It has a fun easy interface to use and is very intuitive. I have a lot of friends that I play with and often have at least half a dozen games going at once. The stats and rankings and records of games is cool too. My biggest complaint and the reason I rate it low is all the gewgaws, side games and challenges. I find them very annoying and distracting. They pop up after every move, telling you you’ve earned coins and challenges and seeds. It’s a pain to even open the app sometimes because you’re hit with them right away. Plus, I can’t prove it but it seems like, if you’re on a streak you start getting really bad letters. I’ve taken multiple screenshots where I’ve had nothing but sets of 2 or 3 vowels. It feels like the are pushing you to use one of the various power ups because that only started happening to me when I got the latest version of the game. Like I said I’ve been playing this game since 2010. If there were a way to turn off all the challenges and events and mystery box crap this app would get a much higher rating from me. As it is now, I only remain because I like to play and its very popular with my friends. It’s like facebook that way.
  • Great game! Horrible ads!!!!!!!

    1
    By MrHOpus
The game is great. But there should be an option to pay for ad free. The old version had this. We loved that version and resisted moving to the new game for that very reason. Had I not been forced to upgrade to a newer phone that will not run the old version, I would still be very happy with that one. However, since being forced to use the newer version, I have found it to be an enjoyable improvement. I love the sounds and some of the options like hindsight, but they are not worth the insufferable, loud apps that auto play after the game sometimes. I don’t even mind the ads that promote other possible games I might like. But the video ads are the worst thing. I can’t mute my phone quickly enough, and the is no mute option. It is annoying enough that I will just quit playing at all during the hours that those ads show up. Plus, some of them have a “skip” option that just doesn’t work. I guess if you make the skip button small enough it gets folks to accidentally click through to whatever that is it keeps taking me to and they somehow profit from errant clicks even though I immediately dismiss that other page and go right back to the game. A good move would be to offer the “pay to play ad free” option, or at the very least eliminate the video ads.
  • Developer wants players to spend every waking moment playing their game!

Game is ok, but not as good as many other word games. There are coins to earn that give you things like swapping letters without losing your turn or seeing where you can play a word, but the developer keeps upping the ante. If you want to earn 100 coins, you have one week to do it by getting a huge score. It used to be doable, but every week they increase it by about 2,000 points and now it’s over 26,000 points. Considering that the average word is around 20 points, you’d literally have to be playing all day long to earn the measly 100 coins. Last week it had been bumped up to 24,000, so it’s likely to be over 28,000 next week. There’s no incentive to spend that much time playing a word game. I guess they’re focused on senior citizens who are retired or people who are too ill to be functional. Otherwise, they’re hoping you get so addicted that you’ll drop everything to play. Not a nice thought either way. So, people will play, but who cares now if you win or get the points. Its just something to briefly keep you occupied after you’ve gotten through a busy day. It’s sad that the developer has so little respect for players. Seems to be the way the Country is going. I’d rather spend time with family and friends and play HQ.
  • New version limits extras

    By snowlake14
While there are some good things about the new version of the game, I’ve noticed after a couple weeks of using it that it’s much harder to get coins, which can then be used to use additional features like hindsight, etc. In the old version of the game the daily bonus was 15 coins, which allowed for at least one “extra” feature to be purchased. The new daily gift is usually only 2 coins—not even enough to buy one hindsight. So since this new version has been released I’ve noticed I have way fewer opportunities to use the extra features like hindsight, which I miss. While I do play this game pretty much daily, I often don’t play enough in a week to complete the challenge, which provides 100 coin bonus. Also, the new solo challenge is fun, but once you complete the challenge you can no longer play until the next solo challenge is released, which I hope is changed. Why not let the player rematch with the computer challengers even after they’ve beaten them once? But in general the game is really fun and I’m glad the developers are working to improve it all the time.

I have to login and logout all the time in order to get messages between people that I play with on the game. It tends to freeze a lot. It’s not a very smooth game or well-developed app. It’s getting really annoying to have to login logout login just to get messages because someone is playing on a different device a kindle to be exact. Stop with the fancy upgrades and make it more simple basic I love playing this game and keeping in contact with friends but you can’t message them if they’re on a different device it’s really annoying and I do agree that they won’t respond of this. Come on developers you’re smart people right figure this out dumb down the game make it simple get your graphics better get the color of the game better so you can actually see what you’re doing. How come every time I have to login I have to go through and delete the games I’ve already deleted that’s annoying once I deleted them they should stay off the game it’s annoying fix it I know you told me in the past it’s all on your servers will get it figured out so I don’t have to keep going through a whole process just to play one game. Now I can’t login it won’t connect to the server one thing after the other this for real I just want to play words with friends with my friends

I do very much enjoy the game. Not only is it a fun way to learn, keep your mind active and challenge yourself, it also helps you stay in touch with friends and family. I may go a week or two not communicating with others if left to initiate conversations on my own. But, I definitely don’t skip taking my turn every day and sending off a quick message using the in game chat feature. Thank you for providing that option. Personal preference, but I do not like the new version, WWF2. The colors, graphics, etc., feel more like a kids game than a game for intelligent adults. I don’t give a rip about some strangers high score or what the popular words are. Put these somewhere else if you must have them. I prefer that space to be used for in game stats like words played and definitions. These two areas should take up the entire column. If you feel you must keep other stats then make them relevant to me. Show high scores for my friends so I can congratulate them, or track the highest scoring word for the current game rather than saving it until the end.
  • I have a suggestion!🌟🌟💫

    5
By 5 stars for Word Cookies!❤️
If this suggestion is bad, please don’t give me hate. Anyway, I had a dream a few nights ago, where on Words With Friends, you could create a game, and there would be a chance of you getting a board with a special spot on the board to put a letter on. On that spot you can only put an N. Now, you can put other letters on it, but it wouldn’t count for the bonus. Right under that special N spot is a regular spot, and then under that spot is another spacial N spot. To get the full bonus, you put another N on the second N spot. Now, this seems hard. What would the special bonus be? Is it worth it? The special bonus is: each N spot counts for 1 quadruple word score. You only get the score if there is an N in that spot. If an N is on both spots, your word is x8. And that’s not all, once you play the word you will get free 5 Swap+’s. I will let Words With Friends choose where they want to put these spots, if this is a good idea. P.S. Sorry if my review name is 5 stars for Word Cookies, I used it for another review and it won’t let me change it.
  • Excessive Ads

    1
    By SuprKity2DRescue
Every SINGLE play you do you get an ad right after without fail. I have an iPhone 8 and often times the ad will freeze my game forcing me to force close or mess up the screen, forcing me to force close as well. I don’t have this issue with any other app on my phone, even with games way bigger. I get they want to make money and it’s free, but the ads are SO annoying. You are bombarded with apps constantly and honestly I never do this, but I’d be willing to pay a $1 just to remove them. Aside from that it’s easy to use and easy to play without making in app purchases. Get rid of the excessive ads or allow us a way to remove them altogether and it’s a 5 Star game. As of right now though I’m debating on just deleting it because the ads are frustrating and often mess up what could be a quick game. This might as well be called Ads with Friends 2 because you’re going to spend 95% of the time watching them, failing at closing them, or having to reload the game. The in app transactions offer an unfair advantage to people with $$ and the AI clearly always have better letters than you to encourage spending, I can ignore all of that if you just take out your ridiculous amount of ads. Somebody must be in crippling debt in that company or something.
  • Glitches galore

    1
    By Chelsjbb
I updated my iPhone to the new iOS and it made me get the newer version of words. At first I was excited because the old version was starting to get glitchy. I would get notifications saying it was my turn but when I went into the game it was saying that it was still my opponents turn. Now with the new app I have this glitch ALL the time. I’ve had to delete it and re download four times in a week so it would recognize it’s my turn. On top of that when I do re download the app, I have trouble logging into Facebook with it. Bringing me in circles saying it has trouble logging in and to try again. Then when I can manage to get past those two speed bumps and finish a game, it won’t let me rematch. I get an “oops something went wrong try again”. Even if I just try to start a fresh game with the same opponent I get that error message. Last but probably not least, the annoying adds they play in between games will have sound even when all my sound is clearly turned off. I’m trying to play to fall asleep and it wakes up the person in bed next to me with the loud ads that aren’t even supposed to have sound to begin with. Super frustrated with this app. Really hope it gets fixed soon or I’m going back to scrabble.

An outgrowth of Scrabble, this game is developing through time. Updates keep changing it, sometimes for the better, sometimes I wish they would have left a feature the way it was. Whereas Scrabble didn’t allow a dictionary on the premises and I never learned a new word, Words has its own dictionary. When you or your friend enter a word it’s meaning is given along with an oral pronunciation. This gives you an opportunity to learn vocabulary. The dictionary is in a development process, so sometimes an entry hasn’t reached its ultimate perfection. All improvements take time. A feature that I would have liked to keep was the return of letters to their original placement. If I was developing a word and it needed more tweaking to make it fit I could touch return and it came back to the bottom just as it was. An update lost that feature. Now the word comes back scrambled so that I have to take time to redo it. Much care is put into the development and execution of this game. I recommend it for anyone who wants to keep on learning in an enjoyable way.

I’ve been playing WWF for years and I used to love it. It’s the first thing I play when I wake up and I usually play it several more times throughout the day. Lately there have been so many features I am unable to opt out of that I’m seriously contemplating leaving this app altogether. I was uncomfortable with features that essentially let you pay to cheat (Hindsight, Word Radar, Swap+) knowing that even if I don’t use them, my friends had that access and I’d never know. Then I would open the app just to have a gift box given to me I couldn’t opt out of so I could get more cheats or coins (usually used to buy cheats). Then they couldn’t handle me actually finishing my turns and leaving the app so just this week they started throwing me into a “solo game“ against a bot as soon as I’ve finished my last turn with my real friends. I’ve resigned all these games, but I’m frustrated that I have to. I paid for the ad-free version so I wouldn’t be harassed. I would like this game so much more if I had the option to reject cheats, gift boxes and unwanted solo games. I want to go back to loving this app more than I hate it.
  • VOLUME!!!

    By CapnSoopaStoops
This may be a ridiculous complaint for most people but here it is anyways. I give the game itself a 5 out of 5, but there is nothing more annoying then me laying in bed at midnight with my eight month old sound asleep next to me and I am finally getting a chance to play a word and catch up on some games and with all the sounds on my phone turned off I play a word and then the ad afterwards starts blaring at full blast and now my kids awake and it will be another hour minimum before I go back to bed. Hey words with friends developers if I have my sound turned off it’s probably for a reason so your ads not seeming to care what my volume settings are at is making it extremely hard for me to play the game because sometimes that is the only chance I get to play a word is when I finally get my kid to sleep. It’s not even every ad, it’s like 1 in 10 ads but that almost makes it worse because I never know when to expect it. I don’t even care that you have ads I just want there volume to be turned off with the rest of my phone!!!!!

A great game to expand vocabulary and connect with friends. Love to play and complete games . Daily looking forward to new challenges however I have encountered a problem . I have been playing consistently with a friend over 6 months when all of a sudden I received a message, "Sorry your friend is maxed out and needs to finish one game. Until that time she can no longer play." I asked her about this and she said she is also trying to play with me and they won't connect us together. She told me to tell you that we tried to discuss with support and had no reason for this problem. They suggested certain things to do with nothing supplying answers to our problem. She continues to play with others with no problem and questions as to whether she deleted me by mistake. We are hoping that we will receive help by sharing our situation...we love the Game! Just sad right now and looking for the correct answer that we need.

This is a great game with the potential to become addictive. I am obsessed with it and love it. Have even had and have some great conversations with other players. Personalities are revealed through strategy and word choice. I have learned new words. There are words that are used that are not included in the WWF dictionary and no matter how many times I’ve asked, my suggestion gets ignored. VOG is a real word describing the combination of volcanic ash and fog that comes from Hawaii island and is blown over all the other islands by the winds. Love the games, new challenges, and other features of this application. The weekly badge goals are sometimes impossible to reach for someone who does not play this game every working hour. I have a suspicion everyone’s badge goal is based on their ability since some people earn their badge right away and I have a goal of 12,000+ in a week! If you love Scrabble, you will love WWF! Every feature of this game is fun and innovative.

The reason I did’t give it five stars is because of the 1500 coin accumulation limit! I’m as avid and serious player and I feel like I’m being penalized for being a good player. I’m somewhat short on incentive to play harder/more often/longer because I’m maxed out on the coins I can accumulate. I think you should perhaps make up another tier of playing excellence by somehow either allowing serious players to accumulate more than 1500 coins, come up with some sort of incentive for players that repack 1500 coins or make another level of play available to those players that reach 1500 coins. I don’t usually ever buy anything from the store to spend my coins on and I’m sure there are others out there who have also maxed out their coin accumulation. So put on your thinking caps and come up with more incentives to use or accumulated coins on or provide a different level of place for those of us who attain 1500 coins and hold that balance for awhile!
